Clarence Nerren Stepp, 87, of East Flat Rock, NC, died Tuesday, October 3, 2017, at the Elizabeth House Four Seasons Hospice. He was born December 24, 1929, in Dana, NC, to his parents, Hillard Nerren Stepp and Ollie Mae Hyder Stepp.
Mr. Stepp was a lifelong resident of Henderson County. He attended Flat Rock High School and then moved briefly to Washington, DC, before enlisting in The United States Air Force in 1948. He was an airplane mechanic for three years and when the Korean Conflict broke out, he was placed with the Pennsylvania Air National Guard and shipped out to South Korea. In 1951 he was promoted to crew chief on B26 attack bombers. Mr. Stepp was honorably discharged in September of 1952, and returned to his life in Henderson County, NC.
After he turned 70, he furthered his education by taking courses at Blue Ridge Community College, including acting, public speaking, and voice for performance. He loved to perform and tell stories about his life experiences. He never met a stranger! After his 80th birthday, he started singing old time country music and recorded 7 CD's. His final CD recording was made just one year ago
